Love Your Actual Neighbor (“LYAN,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a registered Utah nonprofit corporation dedicated to helping neighbors build real friendships and a sense of belonging in their local communities. We operate the website at www.loveyouractualneighbor.org (the “Site”) and administer Project Porchlight, a community initiative in Lindon, Utah.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect personal information that we receive from individuals who visit our Site, sign up as Porchlight Homes, register as Block Builders, apply for Block Party Grants, or otherwise interact with us. It also describes your rights under the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (“UCPA”), Utah Code Ann. §§ 13-61-101 et seq., and other applicable laws.
By using our Site or submitting information through any of our registration forms, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site or submit your information.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly
We collect information you voluntarily provide when you register, sign up, or contact us. Depending on which form you complete, this may include:
- Full name (first and last name)
- Street address, city, and ZIP code

- Email address
- Household size
- Neighborhood interest preferences and hobbies
- Preferred activity types for Neighborhood Groups
- Availability for onboarding calls (Block Builders)
- Support needs and how you heard about us
- Agreement to communication consent
Block Builder applicants may also provide:
- Preferred type of community activity to organize
- Schedule and availability information
- Grant application details, including event dates, streets, participating household estimates, and post-event photos and grocery receipts
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit our Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical information, including:
- IP address and approximate geographic location

- Device type and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent on pages, and navigation paths
- Referring URL
- Date and time of your visit

2.3 Information We Do Not Collect

- Matching participants with nearby Neighborhood Groups and community activities

- Processing and administering Block Party Grant applications and reimbursements
- Mailing Porchlight window stickers to those who request them
- Coordinating onboarding calls with Block Builder applicants
- Maintaining a directory of active participants for internal use

We do not use your personal information for automated profiling or decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

- Contractual necessity: Processing is necessary to fulfill commitments related to program participation (e.g., sending stickers, scheduling onboarding calls, processing grants).

5.1 Infrastructure
Our Site is hosted on Vercel, a cloud infrastructure platform. Form submissions and participant data are stored in Supabase, a cloud database service. Both platforms employ industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and encryption at rest.
5.2 Our Security Practices
We implement reasonable and appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:
- Access controls limiting database access to authorized personnel only
- Encrypted transmission of data between your browser and our servers
- Regular review of data access and storage practices
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You provide your information at your own risk.
5.3 Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, to administer our programs, or as required by law. You may request deletion of your information at any time (see Section 7 below). When we no longer need your data, we will securely delete or anonymize it.
6. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We share data with Vercel and Supabase solely to operate our Site and store data, subject to their respective privacy and security commitments.
- Within the Program: With your consent, we may share limited contact information (such as your name and neighborhood) to facilitate introductions to other registered Porchlight Homes or Block Builders in your area. We will not share sensitive personal information with other participants without your explicit permission.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of LYAN, our participants, or the public.
- Organizational Successors: If Love Your Actual Neighbor merges, transfers its assets, or reorganizes, your information may be transferred to the successor organization, subject to the same protections described here.
We do not share your personal information with churches, schools, city government, or other third-party organizations without your explicit consent.
7. Your Rights Under the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA)
The Utah Consumer Privacy Act (Utah Code Ann. §§ 13-61-101 et seq.) provides certain rights to Utah residents regarding their personal data. Although LYAN is a small nonprofit and the UCPA’s applicability to nonprofit entities of our size may be limited, we are committed to honoring the spirit of these consumer protections. As a Utah resident, you have the right to:
- Know: Request confirmation of whether we process your personal data and, if so, access a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct: Request that we correct inaccurate personal data we maintain about you.
- Delete: Request that we delete personal data we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Portability: Request a copy of your personal data in a portable, readily usable format.
- Opt Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal data. However, you have the right to opt out of any sale of personal data, should that ever change.

8. Communication Consent and Opt-Out
When you submit a registration form, you are asked to affirmatively consent to receive communications from Love Your Actual Neighbor by email, text message, or phone regarding neighborhood activities, Neighborhood Groups, and Project Porchlight updates.
You may withdraw your consent and opt out of communications at any time by:
- Clicking the “unsubscribe” link in any email we send
- Replying “STOP” to any text message from us
- Contacting us directly at outreach@loveyouractualneighbor.org
Opting out of communications does not delete your participant record. If you wish to have your data deleted, please submit a separate deletion request as described in Section 7.
9. Children’s Privacy
Our Site and programs are intended for adults who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18 without verifiable parental or guardian consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information to us without your consent, please contact us immediately at outreach@loveyouractualneighbor.org and we will promptly delete such information.
10. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our Site may use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to improve functionality and analyze Site traffic. We use cookies for:
